Do you really know the vocabulary of committed fashion?

By Eva Meulot, 3rd year student at ESMOD Fashion Design

For this reason, we have prepared a small glossary below with the main definitions of the committed world:

  • Ethical Fashion: linked to a social conscience in the chain of production and manufacture of clothing, ethical fashion aims to improve the working and living conditions of workers in the fashion industry.

  • Eco-Friendly: She cares about her impact on the environment. It should not be forgotten that the fashion industry is the second most polluting in the world. It therefore uses textiles that pollute little, consume little water and minimize transport and the carbon impact of its collections.

  • Recycled Fashion: It is built from clothing and other materials that have already had a first life, or even two or three: this action is called Upcycling. Sustainable Fashion: It is created durable and timeless clothes to push the consumer to buy better quality so that he consumes less.

  • Local Fashion: It relies on very short production circuits.Made In Local is generally Made In France, but faced with the difficulties of finding all the suitable suppliers in France, it sometimes turns into Made In Europe. Its interest is to rebalance the balance and relocate certain industrial activities in our consuming countries. This helps to recreate local jobs and limit polluting emissions linked to transport.

  • Vegan Fashion: It is a way of life that excludes as much as possible any form of exploitation and cruelty to animals, in food as well as in clothing, cosmetics and leisure.
